"Honey, I healed a wound..."

Dr. Rose Cooper*

"If the bees are making their honey almost entirely from the New Zealand tea tree bush,
then it's not surprising that it's very powerful medicine."

Grace Filby

* ref: 'Healing with honey - the secret of honey is out' by Dr Richard White, Senior Research Fellow, Dept. of Tissue Viability, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Grampian Healthcare Trust. This document states that there is substantial evidence for the use of honey-based products, including safety and efficacy. There are five main actions in a wound: 1. antimicrobial against a wide range of pathogens, including MRSA; 2. Debriding: removal of slough and necrosis; 3. Anti-inflammatory; 4. Reduces malodour, so improving patient quality of life; 5. Stimulates healing, even in dormant wounds, by growth of new tissues.

of sterile manuka honey, also available as 'CE' marked Medical Devices in some hospitals and in community nursing.
In the following video, Dr. Rose Cooper describes the medical honey products that are available in the UK on NHS prescription and over the counter. She also explains why it is safer to use irradiated, medical grade products rather than standard manuka honey from a jar.

Evidence on safety and efficacy of Manuka honey is available for a range of wounds: leg ulcers, post-operative wounds, Fournier's gangrene, pressure ulcers, burns and many more.
